What is Botox?
Botox (Botulinum type A) is a toxin that blocks the nerve signals which cause muscles to contract. In modern medicine, Botox is used to treat a wide range of conditions from overactive bladders to the muscle spasms of cerebral palsy. As our face and neck muscles move and contract, fine lines and wrinkles develop in the overlying skin. When we are young our skin is thicker and packed with collagen and elastin fibres, in this type of skin lines and wrinkles spring back when facial muscles are relaxed. With time though, as skin quality decreases, these lines become more prevalent and permanent. The most effective way to treat lines caused by facial expressions is to reduce movement in that area and in these cases, Botox is the gold standard treatment of choice worldwide.
In your consultation at Ideal Skin and Laser Centre, Dr. Asgari will evaluate your facial structure, observing your most active muscles and the lines and wrinkles present. This professional assessment enables him to create a personalized map of your face, formulating a detailed plan of how many units of Botox he will apply and into which facial muscles. Your Botox is then administered using a very fine needle which delivers tiny droplets directly into the muscles being treated. Treatments take only a few minutes, with just a tiny pinch like a mosquito bite felt at the injection site. You will then be given aftercare advice and directions to ensure you get the best possible results from your Botox treatment. Ten to fourteen days later we schedule you for a follow-up appointment to admire the results!
YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does it hurt?
Most patients describe their botox treatment as nothing more than a small pinch or a mosquito bite. Treatments are very fast with only a few injections in each area being treated.
How long does it last?
Your Botox treatment will normally last 4-6 months. The amount of time is dependant on a few factors, the strength of the muscles, the metabolism of the patient and the amount of Botox injected.
How much does it cost?
Botox is charged ‘per unit’ so you only pay for the precise amount injected. In your consultation with Dr. Asgari, he will quote you the number of units required for each area you would like treated and give you an exact figure.
What areas can Botox be used on?
There are a few areas of the face and body where Botox is most commonly used. In the face, we treat the frown lines between the brown, lines across the forehead, crows feet around the eyes and can slim the lower face by treating masseter muscles. On the body we often use Botox to treat sweat glands, reducing excess perspiration in the hands and underarms.
